Pet-friendly houses for rent in Durham, NC

Most of our homes take pets, and the ones that do have no weight limit. The pet policy is stated on every listing, including the fee — you will not find out about it at signing.

Homes below are the ones currently available that accept pets.

Our pet policy, in plain terms

On homes marked pet-friendly, we consider one or two pets. There is a one-off pet fee of $350 per pet and pet rent of $25 per pet per month. No breed restrictions and no weight limit.

Homes not marked pet-friendly are usually excluded because of the flooring or the absence of a fence rather than any objection to animals.

Assistance animals

An assistance animal is not a pet. Under the Fair Housing Act it is a reasonable accommodation, and it is never refused on the basis of a pet policy, never charged a pet fee or pet rent, and never subject to breed or weight restrictions. That applies to every Minmosa home, including those listed as not accepting pets.

Our guide on renting with pets in Durham covers how fees, deposits and pet rent differ, and what a strong application with a pet looks like.

Fenced yards

Where a home has a fence, the listing says what kind and how high. It matters more than the yard's size for most dogs, and it is the detail most often left off a listing elsewhere.

Common questions

Do you have a weight limit for dogs?
No. On homes that accept pets there is no weight limit and no breed restriction.
How much is the pet fee?
A one-off fee of $350 per pet, plus $25 per pet per month in pet rent. Both are stated on the listing before you apply.
Is the pet fee refundable?
No — it is a fee rather than a deposit, and it is separate from your security deposit. Your security deposit is refundable and governed by the North Carolina Tenant Security Deposit Act.
Do you charge a pet fee for an assistance animal?
Never. An assistance animal is not a pet under the Fair Housing Act, and is not subject to pet fees, pet rent, or any breed or weight restriction.
